Vivian Ng

Vivian Ng is a Senior Research Officer at the University of Essex School of Law and Human Rights Centre, working with the Human Rights, Big Data and Technology Project. Her work focuses on investigating the human rights implications of big data, smart technology and artificial intelligence, considering the scope and meaning of human rights in the digital age, and developing legal responses at the international and multi-stakeholder forum levels. This includes examining the specific risks and effects of a range of digital technology, as well as a holistic view of their full and interconnected implications for human rights.

She holds an LLM International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from the University of Essex, and a BSocSc Political Science and Corporate Communication from the Singapore Management University. Vivian previously worked as a consultant for the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). Prior to that, she provided research support for the mandates of UN Human Rights Committee Member Professor Sir Nigel Rodley and Swiss Chair of International Humanitarian Law Professor Noam Lubell, and worked with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office for South-East Asia.
